FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ROSEANNE FOR PRESIDENT 2012
4/20 Legalization of Marijuana
April 20, 2012
Green Party Presidential Candidate Roseanne Barr is the first and only candidate that endorses the immediate legalization of Marijuana. Her campaign has already been endorsed by NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws). In a Barr administration, non-violent offenders of Marijuana arrests would be released from incarceration immediately.
“The legalization of marijuana is number one – the end of all Drug Wars,” Candidate Roseanne Barr on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, February 2012.
The War on Drugs has become a war on those of color as young black men make up most of those arrested and are meted out much stiffer sentences for non-violent crimes involving Marijuana. From a recent article from Colorlines.com, “…close to 87 percent of those arrested for marijuana were black or Latino, while only 10 percent were white.”

One of the biggest expenditures for the government and the taxpayers is the current Drug War and working in tandem, the subsidized Prison System. According to Candidate Barr, the State makes huge profits and those incarcerated are victims and are used as cheap slave labor by the State and the Corporations. Protecting victim’s rights would be an important part of the legalization process.
The most recent news stories indicate that the legalization of Marijuana could save the United States between $7.7 and $13.7 billion per year. If Marijuana was legalized, there would be no need to spend the exorbitant sums of money to enforce the ongoing 60 year prohibition.
“Drug laws need to be rewritten to make them sane and people based,” Candidate Roseanne Barr on the Wise Women Media Radio Show, March 2012.
